In any case, I think it will be hard to make Half-Life 2 make sense with room-scale VR. It's definitely personal what you are comfortable with or not. I think it worked for me sitting, but when we have decoupled aiming it definitely feels more natural to stand, this had me swaying when I moved my character though, but I have heard some people who think that is easier to cope with than sitting.

After getting used to it though, it's one of my best memories in VR so far. The first time I didn't spend more than 10 minutes before I had to stop, it was that bad.

I think it was brilliant, but it took me several weeks of longer and longer sessions to get used to it. I have the Rift DK1 and DK2, I played through all of HL2 in the DK1 and swapped to DK2 for Episode 2, then did Half-Life: Source too. yeah, it's an interesting problem :P Perhaps a portal where you can only use the walls would work.Д«ut, then we could have as small a tracking space as 2m x1.5m for room-scale, not sure how much portaling would be possible in such a small space.Д«ack to Half-Life 2. I would do it myself if I remotely knew how to mod like, anything at all. Still, at the very least maybe someone could make an additional teleporting mechanic for HL2 as well for locomotion, I don't think that could be that hard. So it would be focused on puzzle solving with maybe new mechanics.ДЄnd for half life 2, even if it makes you sick, I've heard that you get used to it after a while, that is why I was hoping for it.

Now that I think about it, it would be easy to make some portal mods focused on VR, which don't have the player moving much from room scale, using portals to teleport but in calmed ways (unlike the original game which makes you do insane tricks with the portals). I've seen some treadmills being used to simulate walking/running but I have no idea if that lets you escape the motion sickness. But, in regular FPS perspective, you can't just go full throttle on the controller pad and expect to have a good time in VR. An exception to this is if your player is in a vehicle and you can see the fixed controls/vehicle around you. The movement in VR must match what your inner ear is perceiving.
